After a week of waiting for good weather conditions, the last FWT event before the big final in Verbier finally took place on Saturday in Fieberbrunn-Pillersee Tal, Austria. The competition was stiff, all riders trying to score the highest amount of points possible in order to either compete in Verbier or to qualify for next year. A good amount of SCOTT athletes were at the start, ready to fight for the overall ranking and a ticket to the final.

Let’s start with the men’s skiers category. With only 12 spots available for the “grand finale” next weekend, Jérémie Heitz (SUI) was definitely one of the favorites, sitting in second position overall. But a bad fall caused him a hip dislocation, just like our backcountry prodigy Dane Tudor earlier this season. Unfortunately, this injury would exclude Jérémie from participation next week in Verbier. Nonetheless, we congratulate him for his sensational season so far and wish him a quick and good recovery.

Stefan Häusl (AUT) and Kevin Guri (FRA) were also battling for a “golden bib” and did well, placing 4th and 5th, respectively. They both managed to make it to Verbier next weekend. Wildcard holder Fabian Lentsch (AUT) finished 15th.

In the women’s skiers category, Jacklyn Paaso (USA) was the first rider out of the gate on Saturday morning. Her fast, dynamic line on the untouched face enabled her to score 64 points. With this nice 3rd place finish Jackie has her ticket to Verbier next weekend. The two other SCOTT athletes, Crystal Wright (USA) and Lorraine Huber (AUT) were less lucky and both fell down after a cliff jump at the bottom of their runs, finishing 6th and 8th respectively. Both had a great season though – Lorri leads the FWQ overall – and get a Wildcard for Verbier.
